I
believe
that setting up a website shouldn't cost a fortune. I also
understand that a successful website needs ongoing updating and management and
that shouldn't cost a fortune either! For this reason I have avoided the
'package' price approach, as this is not only inflexible, but often means you are
paying for services you do not require. Instead my more personalised
approach, with each cost itemised, allows you to determine your own needs and
budget.
Initial Costs
Web Site Design &
Set-up:
My hourly charge is $25 + GST.
As an estimation if I am supplied with an electronic version of all of the
information you would like on your site (eg wording, pictures, graphics sent
via email or on disk) it generally
takes about an hour and a half to create and upload each page onto the
internet.
Purchase of a
Domain Name:
This is the purchase of the
internet address you will use - your very own piece of internet real estate!
When you buy a domain name you are getting the bit that comes after the www
eg: www.mynamehere.co.nz This works
a bit like renting a Post Office Box – you pay an annual fee for the use of that
address. All domain names are unique. Once it is registered it cannot be used
by anyone else and it will remain yours for as long as you want it – or at least
for as long as your pay the annual renewal fee. When choosing a name its best
to choose a short, simple, memorable, easy to spell name. A domain name also
includes all the email addresses that come with that domain (eg info@mynamehere.co.nz or
jane@mynamehere.co.nz

Purchase of a Hosting
Package:
Hosting is paying for the
service which stores your internet pages and makes them available on the
internet 24 hours a day 7 days a week. In exchange for this service you pay the
owner of the host computer (called a server) an annual fee.
In the past I purchased hosting
plans on my clients behalf from various hosting companies, however it was
becoming increasingly difficult to source a package that met our clients needs
and budget. As a result I decided to source my own hosting solutions,
which I am now able to offer exclusively to my clients. By sourcing my
own solutions I am not only able to offer you a very competitive rate but am also
able to be more flexible with the packages offered. When comparing prices
with other hosts please note our charges are annual not monthly as often quoted. As an example
I can offer
the following:
Pearl Package:
Suitable for smaller sites including up to 15 MB disk space with 250 MB
monthly site traffic ($40 + GST per year)
Ruby Package:
Suitable for medium sized sites including up to 25 MB disk space with
500 MB monthly site traffic ($75 + GST per year)
Diamond Package:
Suitable for larger popular sites including up to 50mb of storage
with 1500 MB monthly site traffic ($150 + GST per year)

if storage or traffic limits are
exceeded website function may be suspended and additional charged
incurred)
Ongoing Costs
Additions / alterations:
If you
require any addition or alterations to your site after the initial set up I
can offer this service at $25+GST per hour.
Annual Renewal of Domain
Name & Hosting Package:
Once your
site is established I will automatically renew your Domain Name & Hosting
Packages on an annual basis (charges as
above) unless I am notified otherwise before the renewal date.
Annual Site
Management Charge:
An annual
charge of $25 + GST includes monitoring your site throughout the year and
renewing your domain name / hosting package on your behalf.
